What To Know Before Visiting Chichen Itza In Mexico
Happy New Year!
I am just recently returning from a trip to Cancun with my family and I already can't wait to go back! The highlight of our short trip was visiting Chichen Itza. Unlike some of the other 7 wonders of the world, many people haven't heard of Chichen Itza. Its a site of Mayan Ruins in the Yucatan Peninsula dating back to 600 A.D. Crazy, right? As always, I love visiting ruins and witnessing the deep thought and labor that went into creating these structures so long ago. If you happen to find yourself in the Yucatan Peninsula, be sure to visit Chichen Itza!
TIP: Bring water, hats, umbrellas, and sunglasses because it.is.HOT out there! Also, arrive early for good pictures.
We did a tour and I highly recommend it. The lines to get in are extremely long, so its so nice to have your tickets pre-purchased. Since we were staying about 2 hours from the site, it was helpful to have the transportation included. Its also helpful to have a guide so that you can understand the symbolism of the structures. Our tour guide was of Mayan heritage and he was so excited to share his culture with all of us.
